I always find castle weddings really magical and today's is no exception.

Lucy and David married at Hazlewood Castle which has been in the family estate of the Vavasours since Norman times and was mentioned in the Domesday Book in 1086! That's some impressive history.

Lucy chose to wear the elegant and sparkling Foxglove by Jenny Packham which looks divine on her. The sheer sleeves are just so pretty and delicate. It's the perfect gown to match the vintage China, all of which comes from Lucy and David's own collection...

If I had such a beautiful stash, I'd be eating High Tea everyday! And what a lovely way to include your family history in your wedding day.

Today's wedding also includes the two cheekiest page boys I've seen for a while, but it looks like the twosome had an awesome day. And I think we can safely say, so did Lucy and David.

Sarah the Bride:We loved planning our wedding. We both wanted our day to be personal to us and our time together...after all isn't that the very meaning of your wedding day? Everything we chose had a personal meaning behind it from the venue, the food, the flowers, to the firework display in the evening. We payed attention to the fine details and went through a journey discussing older memories and in turn created just one day filled with a thousand more.

Our main inspiration came from the huge collection of old vintage china that we have, handed down from generations, which are far too pretty for a Sunday morning cup of tea. We wanted them to have a presence and in a way it meant we had everyone around us on our wedding day from past to present. From then we started our search, initially in our Parents attics to find an array of beautiful vintage accessories to prettify our day!

The planning of the rest of our day took shape...if we knew our family and friends, we knew that having all these fabulous people in one room would instantly create a day filled with amazing memories...all we had to do was supply the beautiful surroundings, keep the champagne flowing and the atmosphere surely followed.

We chose Hazelwood Castle, set in Towton Moor near our home outside of York/Leeds. This was the first and last venue we visited, it ticked all the boxes for us from the intimate Chapel of St Leonard's in which we were to be married, to the stunning backdrop of the castle and the romantic internal decor. On our first visit we were told that the Castle was the location of the Battle of the Roses...ourselves having being born and raised in the Red Rose and later in life choosing to move and build a life in the White Rose seemed to say it all.

The castle and Kelly, our wedding planner provided it all. From our spoilt-for-choice food menu from which our guests got to choose their own divine meal, to serving our favourite tipples of champagne and Peroni. Our wedding was conducted by Father Ian, we have both never in all our lives met such a delightful man who blessed us with such goodwill filling our ceremony with love and laughter...something we'll never forget!

I had an instant desire on our wedding day to wear something that would feel like 'me' but the very best of me! I dreamt of romantic, A-line silk gowns, embellished with elegant detail...I spotted my dress hanging independently of all the other gowns as I first stepped into the boutique...and absolutely loved it. I wore Foxglove By Jenny Packham. On the day it was comfortable, it flowed as I walked and swayed as I danced and glistened from the thousands of handstiched mother of pearls.

I love the pretty mirage's from the 1920's and so I asked Lucy to keep the make up natural so everyone looked confident in their own skin. Emily did a fantastic job with everyones hair, making the most of the dresses and she placed the beautiful headdress I'd selected from Ivory & Co to line the french plait that swooped across the back of my head. I wore a matching bracelet, my engagement ring and earrings by Jenny Packham, a beautiful gift from David on our wedding day, which matched my dress perfectly. I finished my look with a mid length chiffon veil and I wore lovely lace shoes from Rainbow Club Called Melanie.

I'd selected my Bridesmaid dresses from Coast based on shape, length and style. I loved the informal vintage look and wanted them to feel comfortable on and off the dance floor. My Bridesmaids were two of my closest friends, Ellie and Alexa, they wore old gold brooches with matching earrings and bracelets. They looked beautiful! We stayed at the castle the night before and all got ready together in the morning, they were brilliant on the day and provided with me champagne, tea and diet Pepsi on demand and kept me calm on my short walk towards the Chapel.

The Groomsparty consisted of David's two best men David & Andrew, his friend; another David, brother Matthew, my brother Robert and his Dad. They wore silk slate grey suits from Greenwoods as an end to a long search to accommodate the varying heights and stature (my brother being 6'11) with matching grey tailored waistcoats. They wore lovely brown vintage leather shoes and and dusky pink neckwear to match my Bridesmaids! We had our two godsons as our page-boys, they looked the picture in their co-ordinating suits and were happy and mischevious all day long.

The flowers were a balance of our wedding colours - dusky pinks, sagey greens and ivory ranunculus, hydrangea and astrantia carefully selected by Firenza Floral Design. Fiona gave me a perfect surprise on our wedding day by including my favourite peony (which I didn't think we could have due to the early season). It was so special that I've since have had my bouquet preserved into a 3-D framed photograph so I can look at it forever!

The table decorations, all done by myself, were a mixture of cake stands bursting with cupcakes, hand cut bunches placed in vintage teapots and accompanying teacups filled with peonies and rose scented candles that burnt all day long! The castle was full of things to tell our story, scrabble boards on display that I'd found in my late grandparents belongings, photo-frames filled with pictures collected over the 8 years we had spent together, the table plan and table numbers labelled with dates of significance to us which later transpired to be included in David's speech...a little guessing game for our guests and a little surprise for me.

Our Bridesmaids kept our guests entertained during the wedding breakfast by initiating a sweepstake relating to the total time of the speeches...David, my brother and his two best men provided amazing speeches without a break from the laughter or a dry eye in the room...47 minutes in total meaning most people had guessed no where near! The evening commenced as we cut our beautiful cake, danced our first as The Hollands to our favourite song, performed by The Rips and finished with a breathtaking firework display outside in the castle grounds.

The photographs complied by Chris & Verity provide us with a constant reminder of our big day and for that we are eternally grateful. As a married couple themselves they appreciate the intimate moments of the day and work perfectly together in making the most of every minute and memories to last forever! Every part of our day makes us smile!
