Why should models have all the fun? Each month we're finding a "real woman"-i.e., of any shape and size-and giving her the model treatment in The Realest. We bring the wardrobe, stylist, photographer, makeup artist and blog editor-she brings her anything-but-one-size-fits-all personality and style-and we all head out on location for an IRL photo shoot to showcase our monthly Dress Spotlight.

This month we packed up our dresses and headed to New York City to hang out with the incomparable Angela Sumner. Confident, smart and full of a million and one ideas, it's no wonder why Angela is a video director at Refinery29. You may be familiar with one of her many projects, Short Cuts by R29-a megapopular video series made up of forever helpful beauty tips and how-tos. Playful and always up for an adventure, Angela let us into her West Village apartment (and closet!).

Angela's wardrobe totally reflects who she is: fast thinking, sassy, quirky, playful and a go-getter with a no-nonsense approach to life. And let's just say she's not basic. Her wardrobe is chock-a-block full of wonderful, well-curated items-an amazing collection of shoes (think Gucci, Wang, Choo), vibrant printed outerwear, classic menswear-inspired jackets, tailored pieces and beautiful heirloom jewelry from her grandma.

Our stylist Tamala put together five outfits ready for anything a New York summer has in store. It was easy to work with Angela to find those key pieces that kept her looks minimal, but true to who she is. Below, Tamala takes us through her choices and styling tips from a beautiful day in the Big Apple.

This print is romantic and the dress is feminine, but by adding the leather jacket and tonal, textured shoe with vintage jewelry, it felt like a dressed-up everyday look that can be worn for multiple occasions (work, dinner or a brunch date). There are no rules when dressing for yourself, and in this outfit you can be the boss.

Chelsea28 faux wrap dress | leather moto jackets | block heel sandals

Vince Camuto shift dress | platform sandals | metallic clutches

By keeping the accessories fairly minimal, I could go wow with that Gucci leopard-print platform sandal. It's a simple combination, but it works loud and clear: New York City chic.

FELICITY & COCO shift dress | off-the-shoulder tops | metallic sneakers

When I first saw this dress, I knew exactly how I wanted to style it on Angela. Like Kate, Drew and Alicia, Angela has a fun, girly-grunge edge to her that can be both sweet and urban. To update this look from the '90s slipdress, white tee and choker, I styled it with a sleek metallic sneaker and layered her favorite vintage necklaces from her grandma with the choker. Then you add the long board (she's a natural on it!), and it's a done deal.

Rompers are fun, and this one speaks for itself with the bright color, lace details and fabrication. Keeping it simple and minimal was key. Having a menswear-inspired loafer in a darker tonal color and larger crossbody gave it more of a modern, feminine twist. Pairing it with a versatile jean jacket makes it nonchalantly cool.

Eliza J lace shift dress | print pumps | print jackets

This dress is a classic, in fabrication and silhouette. It felt natural and familiar to Angela's style to mix and match fabrics, prints and tonal colors to highlight her natural joie de vivre. She can go from downtown to uptown in this look feeling confident everywhere in between.
