Mociun | SPACE at Nordstrom

Mociun | SPACE at Nordstrom

Tuesday and Thursday mornings are SPACE jeweler Caitlin Mociun's yoga mornings, so when she rounds the corner into her showroom and studio for our buying appointment, she's wearing the appropriate Nike workout gear-with, that is, one of her slim, fitted gold bangles and a pair of Chanel ankle boots. Her low-key bling and easy finery is a perfect metaphor for her work, which is grounded and luxurious all at the same time.

For the next hour and a half the SPACE buying team worked with Caitlin and her crew to pick out the coming season's rare stone-studded jewelry to be featured in our shops and online.

To some degree, Raul Becerra and Sarah Anderson, our buyers, 'shop' with Caitlin much in the same way that you shop with us. They chatted, they caught up, and then they got down to the business of hearing what Caitlin is excited about. She laid out some of her favorite things on large wood table, and they dug in.

As much as she's Brooklyn girl, Caitlin's also a world traveler, so when she held up the gold hoops she's currently totally sprung on, I thought on one hand of the East Coast '90s vibe, but on the other, of India and beyond.

The pairs above are some of her initial explorations on Mociun's way to take on the form, but what's amazing about how Caitlin and Raul and Sarah work together is that she's driven to create exclusive pieces for SPACE-variations on her favorite themes so that our collection of her work represents her vision and ours. And yours.

Likewise with these subtly jeweled bangles. Caitlin's favoring small stacks of them-just two or three on an arm, and as she began bringing out trays of loose gemstones, Raul and Sarah played with using different stones and colorations with the classic, updated design.

Among the gems we saw yesterday were 0pals (above), pink pearls, sunstones (below), and an incredibly rare tourmaline from the Ukraine.

Inspired by the raw materials as well as the read-to-wear trends they've been seeing this week, Raul, Sarah and Caitlin made plans for morecluster earrings as well. The popular style is an example of what sets Mociun apart in the world of fine jewelry: sustainable sourcing, modern settings and inventive, geometric forms.
