As you may notice chalk available in stores is not suitable for drawing on the sidewalk. It wipes off very quickly and is uncomfortable to hold in the hand. If you had all these problems in childhood, while drawing on the sidewalk, your children surely would have them too.

Heather from Poppy Haus wrote about recipe for homemade chalks on Playful Learning website. What's important in this project is that by using various materials: wrapping paper, toilet paper or paper-towel tubes as molds, you can get different sizes of chalk.
