REAL WEDDING | A SUNNY AND LAID BACK SOUTH AFRICAN FARM WEDDING

REAL WEDDING | A SUNNY AND LAID BACK SOUTH AFRICAN FARM WEDDING

So, the next stop on our road trip takes us to South Africa, to Babylonstoren, one of the oldest Cape Dutch farms in Paarl, Cape Town…

This beautiful wedding, captured by Love Made Visible, is stripped back to the very bare essentials of what makes a great wedding – family, friends, good food and wine and above all, LOVE!

“Nick and I met through Nick’s twin brother Byron, we  worked together and for the longest time I never even knew that Byron’s twin, Nick even existed, but one night, we were introduced at an industry party, (we are both in advertising) and we bumped into each other a couple of times after that.

But it was when Nick invited me for a very lavish Easter lunch at his quirky apartment, which I adored, that we really started hanging out together.

The night Nick proposed was really special, not just because it was the day he asked me to marry him, but because it was snowing. In Johannesburg, snow is a very rare thing, and the last time it snowed was more than twenty years ago! So it felt like it was just for us. Nick had booked us into a really beautiful hotel called Fairlawns in Sandton, and as we ate beautiful, warming oxtail by the fire, Nick asked me to marry him, it was very intimate and personal, nothing over the top or showy, very us.

Babylonstoren is one of the oldest Cape Dutch farms in Paarl, Cape Town. It has a fruit and vegetable garden of beauty and diversity, unique accommodation, fine food and a sense of wellbeing, that you would have to see to believe. It is well renowned for it’s exquisite food, and the whole experience is just too gorgeous for words.

Babylonstoren was the perfect mix of natural understated beauty which Nick and I both gravitated towards, the venue itself was just the most beautiful backdrop, nothing needed to be added and the tree we were married under will always be a special place for us.

We had out good friend Jess, from a band called Father & Son sing us down the aisle, which brought a lot of our guests to tears. She sang ‘Such Great Heights’ by The Postal Service, a band that Nick and I both love, which is pretty timeless, and the words are prefect for us.

Have you ever seen such a cool congregation?!

The ceremony itself was my most favourite part of the day, it was incredibly special and personal to us as a couple. I also really enjoyed getting ready with ‘the best’ bridesmaids a girl could ask for, they kept me calm and made me feel truly blessed.

We asked Julie for some words of wisdom for couples currently planning their big day… “Don’t get hung up on the detail. The day flies by so quickly, so try and be in the moment, expect things not to be perfect and you’ll be pleasantly surprised when they are. I would suggest making a list of the things that are important to you before the day, that you wont wish you had done afterwards. If spending time with your mom is important to you, make a little mental note of this before so that it all doesn’t just flash by, you can’t do it over!”

Stunning, elegant, understated and beautifully shot, we’re in love!
