Wedding - Guess Their Wedding Date

Guess Their Wedding Date

I knew the bride & groom wanted all their wedding guests to wave sparklers as they exited the venue. What I didn’t know was they also wanted a photo of them making their wedding date with those sparklers. TOTALLY different sort of setup. My tripod was in my trunk, which was down under the Ritz Carlton parking structure and only available via $30 valet. So when they got to the bottom of the steps and said, “Hey, I saw this photo on Pinterest where the bride/groom draw their wedding date with sparklers… lets do one of those real quick…”, I didn’t have the peaches to tell them it would take about 20 minutes to fetch my tripod, take some practice shots, etc. Instead found a bucket left by one of the groundskeepers, emptied it out, steadied my camera on it, switched it to Manual (13 seconds @ F/11 ISO 400), pre-focused on one of them holding their hand out, lit by my iPhone) and told them to go for it. Took a couple tries to get it right, and then they rushed off into the darkness to their honeymoon. Just another example of how being well-versed in several aspects of photography can help with another type. All those nights of doing long exposures (see previous photo) sometimes does pay off.
