Emilie and Soloman's Beautiful Hipster Countryside Wedding

Emilie and Soloman's Beautiful Hipster Countryside Wedding

Summery and elegant yet extremely vintage cool, this wedding is just so beautiful we had to share. Emilie and Solomon's charmingly laid-back country style wedding, captured by the incredible Grace and Mitch at Grace Elizabeth Photography, has totally inspired us with it's rare wild beauty and simplistic edge. Emilie's creative hand and heart-warming vision for her special day blossomed into a wedding so pure and stylish, it could easily be mistaken for a styled shoot! Both pretty bride and charismatically dressed Groom exude incredible style with a difference, and unbelievably, the bride draped herself in ay lace, hand-picked her wild flower decor and gathered her wonderful community to create this folk-style, relaxed, countryside wedding. Here's how they created their perfectly sentimental outdoor countryside wedding.......

We wanted a relaxed day that reflected us. We wanted to create a day that we would want to attend if we were guests. We wanted to provide little surprises round every corner, but also show the beauty of the venue. We had a tour around the pumping station, played rounders, danced to a folk band and relaxed under the gazebo - we wanted it to be a fun day with lots of activities. Our vision was to have a beautiful relaxed day, full of dancing, food and vitality, set in the warm outdoors, surrounded by people that we love...

The proposal was like a dream. We arrived at Victoria Station in London and I was expecting to go for dinner with friends when I saw the Orient Express. I had read a lot of the books and watch the Agatha Christie's Poirot since I was rather young and never expected to be able to travel on it until I was older and had saved some money. I took a photo of the train and when I turned around Solomon looked fishy. He then pulled out two tickets and we got on board. It was all a bit of daze in my head. I love murder mysteries and it was a special Murder Mystery Journey in which different actors/characters would come into the carriages and we had to work out who had committed the crime. We were sat in a private carriage, eating a five course dinner and drinking champagne, and Solomon was taking a video of me (he's a film maker) and when I turned around he was on one knee! And of course... I said yes.

Our Wedding Stationery was all done by Solomon and he also made or 'Save the Date' video. Our invites were created by a friend and then we had them copied and printed. We had a map for our invite and another video providing general information. Check out the lady that created our invites on her insta page @paperandjen. My dress was an eBay find as I wanted a dress that I could make my own with a stamp of creativity. So I bought the dress and then a family friend helped re-design it with my input. I went down the aisle bare foot (more comfortable!) and then spent most of the reception in ballet shoes. One of my bridesmaids let me borrow some earrings and that was all the jewellery that I wore. My friend did my hair in return for a bunch of flowers! And my now sister-in-law did my make-up.

Solomon's suit was beautifully hand tailored by King and Allen. The suit was mustard colour, double breasted, and complemented with a blue tie with ducks on it.

We decorated the venue with wild flowers, dahlias with lavender, cream roses and different flowers that were in season. We wanted lots of flowers dotted around. Other than my bouquet, the button holes and other bouquets were made by my mum and nan and friends. This way you can save money but also have exactly what you wish.

Our ceremony took place in Heart Church, Nottingham. The church we married in is our home church which most of our friends also go to, so this was very special to us. We tried to bring the outdoors inside with a hessian runner and flowers down the aisles. I would describe the wedding as a relaxed, country style. We wanted everyone to enjoy being outside as much as possible. Having the hay bales, beer keg, rounders and just a general freedom for people to go where they wanted since it was a big site, allowed people to fully relax. It's hard to pin point an exact style/theme, but it just felt like it was 'our' wedding. We wanted the wedding to be different and to be fun and relaxed, without the guests feeling like there was a strict itinerary.

Papplewick Pumping Station is a beautiful venue which we loved, as Solomon's parents used to work there. We really wanted our wedding to be outdoors and to have a relaxed rustic feel, which the venue created perfectly. We wanted it to be decorated summery and wild, with lots of colour. We had bunting and lots of flowers dotted around to make it feel summery. We had lots of cosmos down the aisle and purchased a lace curtain from Ikea which created our backdrop. We really wanted to do a lot of the creating ourselves. The cake was naked and beautifully crafted by one of my friends Rosie and her mother Claire.

We used wooden disposable cutlery and plates and bought a marquee/car port so that we could sell it on afterwards - much cheaper than hiring a marquee! This was decorated with festoon lights and bunting. We had hay bales for seating and hired all of our tables and chairs. It was a lot of work, but it was worth it!! I wanted flowers to be the main source of decoration, we scattered them as well as candles and jars and that's what we focused on in terms of decor. I think that the more we did ourselves, the more we got out of it, as we saw all of our handy work come together on the day!

Some of our friends from church helped us massively by agreeing to cater three weeks before the wedding when our caterer dropped out. The food was delicious; we had a BBQ with many different types of burgers, salads. We also wanted light things so that people didn't get hungry, so we had olives and breads and nuts whilst people waited to be seated.

Solomon chose our first dance, it was Louis Armstrong's version of 'Mack The Knife'. We chose it a couple of days before the wedding. Solomon has Jewish heritage and one of the traditions is being lifted onto a chair, and then him, his groomsman and his male family members all danced to klezmer music. We had a swing band whilst people arrived and whilst they were eating which was great music for people to relax and chat to. Then we had a folk band play that are also our friends which was great. They did lots of covers and great music for people to dance to. We also had a game of rounders going off in a nearby field which was fun

The dancing throughout the night was a lot of fun!

The wedding was definitely relaxed and had a unique country style. We wanted everyone to enjoy being outside as much as possible. Having the hay bales, beer keg, rounders and just a general freedom for people to go where they wanted (since it was a big site), allowed people to fully relax. It's hard to pin point an exact style/theme for our day, but it just felt like it was 'our' wedding. We wanted it to be different, fun and relaxed, without the guests feeling like there was a strict itinerary.

Just relax and keep things simple. We didn't spend money on hiring cars and cutlery and things like that, which worked for us. We also didn't have a seating plan at the reception which kept things relaxed!!Don't stress, it's going to be great!Think about which aspects are the most important to you. Having the right photographer is so important. Our photographers Grace and Mitch from 'Grace Elizabeth Photo & Film' are friends of ours; they knew exactly what we wanted, from their photographic style, to how many final photos were delivered. We felt relaxed and liked how the photos just naturally captured moments of the day, which is exactly what we wanted. Buy a marquee tent, it's so much cheaper than hiring if you want to have an outside wedding. We had friends and relatives make cakes/desserts, this is such a great way of getting people involved as most people really want to help out!
