Autumn 'Stick Season' Sorcery-Inspired Shoot in Vermont

Autumn 'Stick Season' Sorcery-Inspired Shoot in Vermont

via

Between the color-filled autumn and the blanket of amorphous white winter snow in Vermont, there exists a magical yet underrated time period where brown, tan, charcoal, and black take over the landscape. Clouds come in shades of foreboding gray; the sun dimly shines with a weak, white light; it's the interim period that can be seen as a warning - snow is on the way, but with it, there's beauty, too.

Bone-colored birches, crinkled-bark on sugar maples, a forest floor covered in tawny leaves... Locals tend to love the serenity and comfort of the stark beauty - it's a time that brings forth crackling fires, cozy blankets and finding warmth within the home. This is called 'Stick Season' and it's the greatest driver of inspiration for photographer Michael Tallman in dreaming up this styled shoot. To make it come to fruition, he teamed up with designer Little Branch Events, along with florist Valley Flower Company.

Michael shares Photography is able to blur the line between magic and reality. It does this for us as it stills time for one shutter click. It's a theme I've noticed as I reflect on my work, and I wanted to push this thought of magical realism to incorporate a supernatural element in this shoot. Our bride is a sorceress. She is not totally of this world. She has powers to control nature...

Let's venture to Vermont to see all the enchanting beauty of Stick Season!

Lindsey Campbell created this gorgeous invitation.

That hauntingly beautiful forest...

How eerie + enchanting is this photo? We definitely see the sorcery inspiration here...

The groom is wearing a faux fur sweater from Zara and pants from J. Crew. The bride is looking ever so elegant in a dress by Monique Lhuillier, with hair + makeup by Milk House Hair Studio.

Florist Morgan Perrone of Valley Flower Company shares In keeping with our inspiration, I strove to reflect the true mood and nature of the season by selecting elements that were neutral in color and creating pieces full of textural delight and depth. The flowers were a mix of seasonal foraged textures including old man's beard, mushrooms, honeycomb, trumpet vine seed pods, and sea oats along with a mix of blooms such as mixed variety garden roses, leucadendron, Lisianthus, and eucalyptus seed pods.

Such a dreamy tablescape was created with tabletop rentals from Melange on Main. We're seriously crushing on that textured centerpiece, too!

Vermont Vintage Rentals provided the gorgeous furniture + other accents.

Farmhouse Group Events provided the delicious catering.

With the added berries, lady fingers + dripping caramel... We're pretty in love with this cake from Bentley's Bakery.

Wasn't that neat?! A huge thank you to the dream team behind this eerie + enchanting shoot... And for sharing Stick Season with us!
