Bride Hannah Patterson was involved in a car accident that left her with a broken pelvis and ribs, a punctured kidney and a concussion just five weeks before her wedding.

The injuries made it difficult for her to stand, but groom Stuart Patterson was there to support her, both physically and emotionally, at the Aug. 25 wedding in Ontario, Canada.

At the ceremony, the bride's father pushed her partially down the aisle in her wheelchair before the groom came and carried her the rest of the way in his arms.

"Stuart slept in the chair next to me in hospital every night holding my hand," Hannah told The Huffington Post. "Stuart has never left my side during all of this. I know it has been hard on him to see me like this but he was strong for both of us."

At the rehearsal, the couple decided that Stuart would carry her down the aisle.

"Being in the wheelchair and not able to walk was very upsetting for me on my wedding day, but I had cried at the rehearsal so I didn't cry on the [actual] day," the bride told HuffPost. "I was just so happy to see Stuart."

Hannah sat for most of the ceremony, but was determined to stand during the vows. She stood by putting all of her weight on her left side and leaning on Stuart for support.

"It was hard on me to stand for that long even with Stuart holding me up," she said. "It doesn't seem obvious in the pictures and video the pain I was in."

Although the recovery process is slow, Hannah said she is "doing better" and has begun using a cane around the house.

The Pattersons, who are both from Northern Ireland originally, met in Sunday school as kids and began dating as teenagers. Stuart's family moved to Ontario five years ago while Hannah was still in Ireland finishing university. They were long-distance until Hannah moved to Canada two years ago.

Through the ups and downs, Hannah said Stuart has been her rock.

"He always made me see how blessed I was to be as well as I was," she said.
