Elegant, Luxurious, and Entirely Pretty London Wedding

Elegant, Luxurious, and Entirely Pretty London Wedding

When you write about real weddings for a living, you end up using all manner of flowery adjectives to describe a couple's big day.

This is however, the first time I've used the phrase, 'luxuriously whimsical' to sum one up.

But when it comes to Georgie & Scott's spectacular London wedding, there wasn't really another term that came to mind once I'd set my eyes on their epic reception, other than perhaps, 'Gasp!'.

Their flower-filled celebration at Two Temple Place was captured by The Curries and styled by Knot & Pop. And we just know you guys are going to gasp when you see it too.

The wedding party set the tone for the elegant occasion, with Georgie in a beautiful vintage-inspired gown, the bridesmaids in chic mix-and-match dresses, and the gents looking entirely polished in black tuxedos.

This California-based couple had a quintessential London affair, with red bus ride to a reception in the historic heart of the city, filled with English florals of both the fresh and the paper variety.

Their banquet hall was dripping in both luxe decor and whimsical details, from towering floral centrepieces, to fairytale glass domes, and pastel napkins and paper goods, to cute state-shaped cookies.

This is how you create a classic, traditional, elegant English wedding, while making it sweet, personal, and a little bit fun too.

Our Love Story

Scott proposed whilst we were staying at his parents house on Lake Lanier in Gainesville, Georgia. The evening before, Scott asked if I wanted to wake-up early to watch the sunrise, which I thought was a strange request as I am not a morning person, but Scott played it off by saying that the sunrises on the East Coast are beautiful and as we live on the West Coast we should at least see one on our visit. When Scott woke me up the next morning I was very sleepy so I completely missed that Scott had set up a hammock, cushions, and blankets overlooking the lake, so when he got down on one knee it was a complete surprise!

The Inspiration

We opted for a pastel palette as loved the freshness that this gave our early summer wedding and the lightness it brought to the heavily wooden panelled reception venue. We just wanted to go big of flowers to create a really lovely English garden inspired look. We then handed over to Knot & Pop to expand on the look and feel to interpret it across the space and all the many details. I was also very set on a banquet style seating plan so the flower arrangements flowing down the centre of the tables were the perfect compliment to the set-up.

The Bridesmaids

I would also highly recommend Twobirds for bridesmaids dresses. Their multi-way wrap dresses suit all body types, which is especially helpful when your bridesmaids range from 5'2 to almost 6ft!

The Music

We went with the traditional Canon in D for the processional, and Mendelssohn Wedding March for the recessional. Our first dance song was Nothing Can Change This Love by Sam Cooke.

The Photography

Knot and Pop recommend The Curries - a husband and wife photography team. From the moment we looked at their portfolio we knew we wanted them to photograph our wedding. They capture all those special candid moments that are the real memories we will want to treasure and kept formal posed group photos to a minimum.

The Flowers

We had a lovely mix of wonderfully romantic flowers - Palest blue Hydrangeas, Nigella and Iris, lilac Scabious, soft pink and cream Peonies, English garden Roses in pale peach, cabbage roses, Sweet Peas in shades of cream, ivory, pale pink and lilac, Bombastic spray Rosebuds and Veronica in ivory, lilac, ivory and palest blue Delphinium, Stocks in all colours. All designs had a base of seasonal foliage to include Eucalyptus a lovely soft grey/green, scented foliage.

The Decor & Details

Knot & Pop suggested bringing a touch of copper to the pastel palette to add warmth and they then decorated the tables with copper cutlery, copper spray-painted table numbers and they made bespoke copper foiled frosted votives. They also had the great idea of switching up the lower gallery and making it into a members club atmosphere with sumptuous furniture, sourced rugs and styled with pastel cushions and paper flowers in glass domes. We worked with Something Kinda Cute with Knot & Pop finding one of their Ready to Go ranges that suited our theme and just needing a paper and colour adjustment to perfectly tie in. As time was of the essence we couldn't have a bespoke design so we were thankful to have the ideal solution that worked beautifully with everything. Knot & Pop came up with the lovely idea of paper flower place cards to tie into the paper flower touches that spanned table plan, to decs to tablescape.

Advice for Other Couples

Our biggest piece of advice is to make your wedding personal to you. Some of our favourite moments from our wedding are the little details that we included e.g. we had masks with our dog's face on them for the photo-booth, and cookies that were in the shape of California (the state where we live) and Georgia (Scott's home state). I think all the guests who had travelled to London from Gainesville for the wedding really appreciated the nod to their hometown! And, of course....If you can, we absolutely recommend getting a trusted and talented wedding planner to assist you. We couldn't have done this without Knot & Pop.

The Honeymoon

Yes we headed to Sandy Lane, Barbados, the day after the wedding, which we would highly recommend as you'll need to take a break after all the wedding festivities and to really enjoy some time alone just the two of you!

Did you gasp? It's such a beautiful wedding, I just adore the abundance of floral details, and how there's a mix of handmade paper florals, wild flowers, and more refined arrangements.

Thanks so much to The Curries, Knot & Pop and of course, Georgie & Scott for sharing their exquisite London wedding with us.
