Peach & Navy DIY Foggy Winter Wedding - Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

Peach & Navy DIY Foggy Winter Wedding - Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

via

WWW readers Sam and Bryn were married on the 28th February 2015. They had a delightful foggy winter wedding chock full of amazing DIY. Sam and her mum created a wedding factory in her kitchen at the weekends to create the amazing details and décor.

There was a dreamy peach and navy colour scheme which tied everything together just so. Food and drink was high on their priorities alongside the ceremony where they wrote their own vows for one another. Perfect.

I love the attire, pretty fresh flowers and thoughtful touches throughout.

Thanks so much to the wonderful Anna Pumer Photography for sharing these images with us.

THE PROPOSAL | The proposal involved husky dog sledding, Canada and total shock!

We were in Banff, Canada for New Years and my early January birthday the year before last and were having the best ski/snowboarding holiday ever. On my birthday Bryn took me husky dog sledding and we spent the day up the mountains sledding over frozen lakes and through picturesque scenery. After what was already an amazing day, Bryn gave me my birthday card and in the card was a ring and a note asking me to do him the greatest honour of becoming his wife! I was so totally shocked. I had no idea that he has be planning to ask me to marry him at all. It wasn't really something that we had ever discussed. I think my first words were 'are you serious' before of course saying yes! My birthday was pretty much at the end of our 2 week trip so knowing that he had been waiting to do that the entire time we were in Banff, and managing to not let the secret slip, made it feel even more special. We then went out for my birthday meal and a few celebratory cocktails with massive stupid grins on our faces. I will remember that day forever.

THE VISION | I'm definitely not one of those girls that has been planning my wedding since I was little and I've not really been to many weddings so didn't really have a clue! The only thing I was sure about was that I wanted to marry Bryn with our friends and family around us and to have as much fun as possible. We decided pretty quickly that we wanted to stay in Brighton and Bryn decided quickly that the main things he wanted to be consulted about were food and music! I had visions of how I wanted things to look and couldn't really find exactly what I wanted when browsing online so decided to make everything myself. Invites, favours, decorations, it was all DIY with some help from my beautiful Mum. It was lots of fun getting together at weekends and making things from scratch. Although due to my unorganised manner and forgetfulness, if I never see the inside of a craft shop again, I think I'll cope!!

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We had just about a year to plan everything. There was never any question of which season and it was Winter all the way! Bryn is an amazing skier and I'm a very keen snowboarder so we knew from the start that we wanted to go to the mountains for our honeymoon which meant a winter wedding was for us. We decided against December as wanted to enjoy Christmas and ruled January out which meant us deciding on February. Once we picked our beautiful venue the rest of the planning really kicked in. I'm quite unorganised and a bit messy so although things made sense to me, others may have questioned my planning skills. Online wedding blogs and Pinterest and I became great friends over the year and I enjoyed every second of planning and seeing things come to life.

THE VENUE | Stanmer House, Stanmer Park, Brighton. We couldn't imagine getting married anywhere outside of Brighton and had our sights set upon Stanmer from the start. We regularly take our 2 crazy beagles walking in Stanmer Park and love it up there. We wanted a venue that meant something to us and not just somewhere we thought looked pretty and Stanmer was the one. After looking around the venue and working out costs we were lucky enough to be able to book the beautiful venue we had our hearts set on.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Georgia from the 2014 Beautiful collection by Enzoani.

FINDING THE DRESS | Wedding dresses and dress shops scared me no end before my journey began. I'm definitely more of a jeans and DMs type of girl so it was all a little overwhelming. The only thing I really knew was that I didn't want a strapless gown and wanted something a little different to the lace fishtail dresses that seem to be the main choice at the moment.

Trying on dresses was so much fun and probably one of my favourite things about the whole planning process. I tried on a few different styles and the lovely ladies in the shop were taking my feedback with each one and then finding me dresses that matched what they thought I was looking for. We then found the one and it was just beautiful. It was the first shop we had been to and only went in with the intention of trying a few dresses on but left having paid a deposit! I had a little panic afterwards that I had picked too soon and tried a few others on just to be sure but nothing measured up to my dress. It was perfect.

GROOM'S ATTIRE | Bryn has a beautiful dark navy suit and waistcoat from Ted Baker. His shirt was from Topman (who knew picking a white shirt could take so many weeks!) and his trainer style shoes were also Ted Baker. He also had a cute peach and white stripy bowtie from an online store in the USA. He looked so gorgeous all dressed up. My heart melted when I saw him at the end of the aisle.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | We had our very lovely friend Tom read 'A Lovely Love Story' by Edward Monkton. Very popular and very used at weddings but we love it and Bryn always buys Edward Monkton cards so it just felt right. We had Bryn's beautiful Mum Jen read 'A Recipe for a Good Wedding Cake'. I love baking and Bryn loves cake. It was an obvious choice and so beautiful and simple, it was perfect and not too long which was good as Jen had shed a few tears by time she had to read it!

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | My gorgeous younger sister and 3 of my beautiful friends did me the great honour of being my bridesmaids. Amy, who was my maid of honour, found out she was pregnant not long after I had asked her, which was such exciting news and I was so happy for her. Her due date was about a week before the wedding so although she was involved in the girly discussions about dresses and shoes we knew that we would be getting her a different dress nearer to the wedding date as we didn't know if she would be 9 months pregnant or have just have had the baby. As it happened she had her beautiful little Jessica 2 days after my hen do (which she came to and even outstayed some of the non pregnant girls!!) and 2 weeks before the wedding. All of the girls wore gorgeous long navy dresses with peach shoes and bags. They looked totally stunning.

THE FLOWERS | We didn't want to go overboard with the flowers as we wanted a fairly simple look but that didn't stop them being gorgeous. I knew I didn't want anything too 'done' and wanted to go for more of a wild/unstructured kind of look. We had dark blue delphiniums, peach roses, eucalyptus and lots of gypsophila. Everything looked perfect and we kept the same theme for table decoration, bouquets and button holes.

THE CAKE | We love food and we're quite clearly greedy so we have 2 cakes! 1 sweet and 1 savoury. We had a 3 tiered sweet cake made up on 1 red velvet layer, 1 carrot cake layer and the top layer of chocolate and peanut butter. We also have a fabulous and very delicious cheese cake as part of our evening catering. It looked amazing and the cheese was out of this world.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Photography and photographs are massively important to me. I'm a keen amateur photographer (I'm not very good but my heart is in the right place!!) and after booking the venue we knew that the photographer would be our biggest splurge. Looking at a photo can bring back so many memories and evoke lots of emotions and I knew that when I was an old lady I wanted pictures that could take me straight back to the day. Cue the amazingly talented and ridiculously lovely Anna of Anna Pumer photography. Her website was just my cup of tea and after a few emails (of talking about snowboarding and cats) we knew that Anna was the lady for us. Her work is incredible and I can't even begin to describe how happy we are with our photos. I cried when I first saw them, what a girl! They made me feel all tingly and I remembered exactly how I felt on the day and know that even when I look at them 50 years from now I will still get that feeling. She is a very special talent.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | I had so many ideas of gorgeous things that I wanted for the wedding. I'm the world's worst at making decisions it took a while to make final decision but I am so happy with the choices that we made. With my mum's help, we made everything. The pom poms, the table plan, the favours, the vases and jars for the flowers, the heart garlands on the backs of the chairs, the signs, everything! It took a while and I'm not the most artistic person in the world but I am so happy with how it all turned out. I got lots of compliments on the day and had people asking where I had bought things. I think they were shocked when I said my Mum and I had started a wedding factory in her kitchen at weekends. The look and decoration of the wedding was really important to me, I didn't lose sight of the main reason for the day but I just wanted everything to look beautiful and I'm so pleased with how it all looked on the day.

THE HONEYMOON | Our honeymoon was 2 weeks in the mountains of Whistler in Canada followed by a 3 night stay in Vancouver before returning home. Honeymoons are totally individual to couples I think but we couldn't think of anything worse that 2 weeks lying on a beach. I'd get bored and Bryn's pale skin isn't made for the sunshine, haha! We spent an action packed 2 weeks of skiing and snowboarding everyday with trips out snowmobiles and zip lining out of 2000ft high trees and lots of laughs and brilliant memories. We then splashed out a bit and finished out honeymoon in style with a 5* stay in Vancouver. It was perfect. We had lots of lovely food and bubbles, did an amazing 25km bike tour of the city, went to an Ice Hockey match, went up in a seaplane and lots more. It was the best trip of our lives!

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | The whole thing will live on in my memory for ever and I loved every second of it. We wrote our own vows to each other and reading mine out to Bryn and hearing his to me was just... wow. I can't even describe the feeling. Seeing all of my mum's and my work put together and everyone telling me how beautiful all of the little extras looked was really special and seeing everyone having such a good time and everyone coming together to celebrate was exactly what we wanted. One big stand out memory will always be the end of the night. Our DJs were due to stop playing and people didn't want them to so the whole dance floor started chanting 'one more song, one more song' it was hilarious. Luckily our lovely venue let the DJs play a little longer and everyone cheered. When the music did finally stop one of our friends started chanting 'there's only one Brynmor, there's only one Brynmor' and then everyone joined in and Bryn was hoisted up and crowed surfed out of the room and into a cab. Epic.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | My advice is to be happy and be you. Don't lose sight of the real reason for the day. Looking into each other's eyes and saying 'I do'.... Everything else is just a happy and very lovely bonus.
