Relaxed Blue Country Marquee Wedding with a Johanna Hehir Dress | Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

Charles surprised his bride Natalie with a quad bike and trailer wedding transport on the morning of their wedding; after their first date and proposal on the hills on the same quad bike. So romantic!

Natalie and Charles married on the 7 th September 2013 with a Church ceremony followed by a marquee reception. They crafted much of their rustic and pretty décor themselves, which included ladders, bunting and hessian.

Natalie donned an elegant Johanna Hehir dress which she wore with cathedral langth veil and a delicate back necklace. There were the most gorgeous hydrangea bouquets in blue too. Oh so lovely.

Huge thanks goes to This and That Photography for sharing their lovely images today.

THE PROPOSAL | As a first date Charlie took me up on the local hills in the village he grew up in (All Cannings) on his friends (Robbie Daw) quad bike. Charlie didn't tell me what we were doing but said to where sensible shoes/clothing. Like any girl on a first date I wanted to look my best and wore high heels and my best clothes.... big mistake!

Charlie told me he had planned a family day out. I was expecting a trip to the Zoo or Peppa Pig World. Charlie popped out during the morning with Reuben (our son) so I could get ready. On his return he didn't have Reuben. He said he had dropped him off at my mums so the two of us could spend the day together. I was not impressed.

When we eventually made it out the door we went over to All Cannings, to Robbie's Farm. This is when he told me we were going up on the hills on the quad for a picnic. We hadn't done it since Reuben born.

When we got onto the hills it started pouring with rain so we took shelter in a barn, where we had our picnic on top of the bales, overlooking the hills, watching the rain go by. Charlie was getting notably fidgety at this point. When the rain passed we got back on the quad and ventured to the top where the white horse was. Luckily it was clear blue skies by this point. Whilst Charlie was pointing out the crop circles I turned around and there he was on one knee!

THE VISION | A relaxed day with close friends and family. A country themed wedding to encompass the surrounding area.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | Firstly, we wanted to try and keep our suppliers as local and traditional as possible, therefore we did lots of research, "googling" and speaking with people to find out who would be best suited from the local area to make our vision a reality.

Once we had the number of day time guests sorted, Charlie then went and confirmed the bulk of the suppliers (Marquee, Church, Hog roast, Band, Photographers, Bar and Toilets. All of these were booked at least 10 months in advance.

Natalie was hard at work with and making the save the dates, invites, decorations and finding the prefect wedding dress!

BUDGET | £15k (ish) however it did end up costing £20k easily.... eek!

THE VENUE | We got married at All Cannings Church then had a marquee on All Cannings Cricket Pitch - this overlooked the hills where Charlie proposed.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Johanna Hehir - Ella Dress - simple, yet flattering. Long wedding veil. Back necklace made by Perfect Day Bridal.

FINDING THE DRESS | I originally wanted a lace dress - I liked the wedding dress designers Pronovias and Paloma Blanca. The dress I chose was completely different from all the other dresses I tried on and thought I would go for. It was simple, not very fussy however it still had that wow factor - low back detail. I wanted a dress people would remember and set me apart from other brides. The style of the dress suited my figure and tried in perfectly with the theme of the wedding. I did have a sash made especially for the dress (made by Perfect Day Bridal) from brochures I purchased to add a little something to the front.

GROOM'S ATTIRE | Charlie wore a traditional morning suit, which was dark grey, waist coat and white shirt. We decided on a traditional tie rather than cravat. The tie was a light blue to match the flower girls dresses and page boy shorts.

THE READINGS & MUSIC |For the reading we chose... Corinthians 13 and Blessing of the Hands. Hymms we chose were One more step along the world I go, Sing Hossana. We wanted hymms that were up beat and most people would know/recognise!

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Leah Pollard (Sister) Libby Edwards (Sister) Lisa Downing (Best Friend) Leanne Newman (Best Friend). Flower Girl Berrie Mildenhall (My cousins little girl). Page Boy Reuben Collier (Our son).

THE FLOWERS | Again simple and not too fussy. My favourite flower is hydrangea so the bridesmaids had blue hydrangea boutiques and I had the hydrangea mixed with Ivory roses and ivory eustoma flower s.

THE CAKE | Tiered Victoria sponge cake with fresh strawberries, blueberries and raspberries with iced ivory flowers.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Kirsty THIS AND THAT PHOTOGRAPHY. We wanted to have a photographer who wouldn't take over the day, someone who blended in, got all the photos without anyone noticing. This was probably the biggest decision we had to make-the photos stay with you for life afterall...!!

TTP were recommended by a friend. As soon as we met Kirsty we knew TTP would be perfect and fit the exact criteria we were looking for. Kirsty was as excited as we were about the theme of our wedding, which got us both excited about using TTP!

We were lucky enough to have a pre shoot a few weeks before our wedding... which definitely helped us both feel more relaxed in front of the camera!

On the day, Kirsty and her husband both came to do our wedding photography and both were AMAZING!! Nothing was too much for them - Kirsty was even hanging out of the boot of a travelling car to get the perfect shot of us on the quad!!

They captured every moment for us and blended in with the guests-everyone loved them! We saw them more as our guests than our photographers!

They were so good that our friends are now using them for there wedding too....!

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | I wanted to make as much of the décor as possible. Signage - I made all the outdoor wooden signage for the wedding (Parking, Welcome sign etc). Old Window Frames were sanded down and painted with chalkboard paint to display signs inside the marquee - menu, photo booth, seating plan.

Marquee - Colourful floral bunting was used to decorate the marquee. We chose a marquee with panoramic windows to ensure everyone could see the view over the hills - with the white horse at the top!

Table Décor - Flowers for table - a cluster of decorated glass jars filled with a mixture of flowers - flowers from boutiques plus Pink Stalk flowers and greenery - To add in extra colour. Jars were decorated with lace, twine, raffia, burlap etc... These were placed on wooden slaps in the centre of each table.

Head Table - we didn't go with a traditional head table. Charlie and I chose to be sat with friends. We opted for a round table the same as everyone else's. However, to make our table slightly different, we decorated the back of the limewash chairs with strands of green ribbon. Place names - I decorated wooden pegs with flower craft paper and printed a name insert. Table Name - chalkboards.

Seating Plan - 10 metal buckets/planters - each with a chalkboard front to display the table name... Guest names were then individually stamped onto lolly pop sticks and places within the pots. Ladders - old wooden ladders were sanded down and painted. Used to display flowers and used to display sweet jars - kiddies sweet shop.

THE HONEYMOON | We decided to go to Cornwall (a place Charlie use to visit as a child - so had many fond memories) for a week - Goran Haven. The house we stayed in was on a cliff overlooking the bay. It was lovely weather, very relaxing and a chance to look back at the wedding and how amazing the day was!

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | High fiving in the church instead of a kiss! The best mans speech was one of the best we'd seen with lots of great stories - he got lots of people involved to tell a different story about Charlie. Surprising Natalie with the Quad and Trailer with wedding décor to take us from the church too the reception venue. The whole day in general was memorable from start to finish and went exactly how we wanted it to go.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES |

Enjoy the planning and follow your heart! Be practical and realistic! Take a moment together during the big day to sit back and embrace what is happening! Be a guest at your own wedding. Enjoy the day as much as family and friends.
